The world’s largest sapphire was found in the backyard of a house in Sri Lanka. It was noted that the stone, mined from the jewel-rich Ratnapura region, was found by workers digging wells. The stone takes more than a year to clean
The person in question did not want to give his full name or location for security reasons. Gamage said it took more than a year for the stone to clear of mud and other foreign matter before it was analyzed and approved.

“I’ve never seen such a large specimen before. It probably formed about 400 million years ago,” renowned gemologist Dr. Gamini Zoysa told the BBC.
