The Pixel 7 Pro will take over the elegant design of the Pixel 6 series. With an updated Tensor chip, a triple camera, and a beautifully rounded screen.
The Pixel 6 series manages to positively surprise many smartphone users. Google has provided the devices with a new design that is popular with many. The brand new Tensor SoC offers good performance as does the renewed camera system. Around May, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will get a cheap brother, the Pixel 6a. In the meantime, there are also more and more rumors about the Pixel 7 series, which is expected around October 2022 – as the first smartphone to run on Android 13.
Last week, several phone renders of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro appeared online, based on information that OnLeaks managed to gather. Graphic designer Parvez Khan, aka Technizo Concept, has also made a series of product images of the expected top model, the YouTube video below was also designed by Technizo Concept.

The Pixel 7 Pro will have many similarities with its predecessor in terms of design. Characteristic is the two-tone housing with the horizontally placed triple camera in between. The new top model is expected to be equipped with a 6.7” or a 6.8” curved OLED display. The screen size may remain unchanged, the Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.71-inch screen.
Presumably, the QHD+ display resolution will be maintained, as will the adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. This makes moving animations look much nicer. The high refresh rate also comes in handy when scrolling through long web pages.
The screen will undoubtedly offer a nice viewing experience, as is also the case with other top models – think of the recently released Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max – which will probably arrive a month earlier than Google Pixel 7 Pro.
Thanks to the rounded screen and the centrally placed punch-hole selfie camera, the phone looks very elegant. The fingerprint sensor is placed under the screen. After the release of the Pixel 6 series, several users reported that it was running too slowly or not at all.
It is therefore not inconceivable that Google will renew the fingerprint scanner. It is possible that an optical sensor will be chosen again – instead of an extra safe and accurate ultrasonic sensor, as can be found in the Galaxy S22, among others.
The front camera will probably remain unchanged. The updated 11.1MP ultra-wide-angle camera used in the Pixel 6 Pro is praised by many. The independent benchmark DxOMark is also very satisfied with the performance of this selfie camera. In their rankings, the Pixel 6 Pro takes the 4th position – Huawei models are in the first three places.
Since the selfie camera has just been renewed, it is expected that Google will not make any adjustments in this area. The OLED panel of the Pixel 7 Pro will be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus Plus. This also applies to the glass back. You can also assume that the new top model will be IP68 certified, which means that the phone is dust and water-resistant.
The device is free of buttons on the left, but the SIM compartment can be found here. The on/off button is placed on the right side, with the volume keys directly below it. The bottom has room for the USB Type-C port, as well as a speaker and a microphone.
Triple camera with zoom functionality
With the Google Pixel 6 series, the company opted for a completely new camera design. The square camera system was replaced by a horizontally designed camera island in which three cameras have been incorporated. In addition to a 50MP main camera, there is a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.2) and a 48MP telephoto camera with periscopic zoom that enables 4x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom.
The black camera island protrudes from the housing, so there is also enough space for the high-quality zoom camera. It is still unknown to what extent the camera system of the Pixel 7 Pro will be updated. In any case, there will be many similarities in design, with some refinements – as we have also seen with the Samsung Galaxy S21 / Galaxy S22 series.
Nowadays, a lot of attention is also being paid to making beautiful video recordings, which can be recorded with the latest Pixel in 4K resolution @ 60fps. Video recordings show a large dynamic range, and beautiful colors, and the image stabilization system also works excellently. The Google Pixel 7 Pro will undoubtedly build on this.
New Tensor chip and Android 13
Since the Pixel 6 series, Google has been using its own Tensor SoC, optimized for machine learning, AI, and speech recognition functions. This new processor with an integrated 5G modem offers good performance. The Pixel 7 series will be powered by the second-generation Tensor, which is undoubtedly even better and faster than its predecessor.
It is possible that 12GB of RAM will be built in again. In addition, there will most likely again be a choice of 128GB and 256GB storage memory. A microSD memory card is not supported. For a price difference of €100, it is certainly worth considering opting for 256GB.
Of course, the Pixel 7 Pro is not only equipped with a new processor, but also with new software. Work is now underway on Android 13. This new operating system will debut in the Pixel 7 series. Earlier this month, the Developer Preview was put online. If everything goes according to plan, the first Android 13 beta release will appear in April, followed by the final release in October.
No information is available yet about the battery capacity and charging options. The current Pro model is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery that provides a long battery life. Charging is quite slow, the device offers support for 23W fast charging.
In practice, this means that an empty battery can be fully recharged in 110 minutes. Hopefully, this will speed up with the 7 Pro. Finally, Samsung has also taken a step this year, by going from 25W to 45W with the Galaxy S22 Plus / Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Following manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung, Google has also decided not to include a charger in the sales box. You have to buy this as a separate accessory. Or you can decide to keep using your old charger.
When can you buy the Pixel 7 Pro?
The Pixel phones are not officially released in the Netherlands. Despite this, the Pixel 6 models are available in our country thanks to parallel imports, including via Belsimpel. In neighboring Germany, Google smartphones are released.
The current top model is available in three color variants: Cloudy White (white/light gray), Stormy Black (dark gray/light gray), and Sorta Sunny (light yellow/orange). Which colors the Pixel 7 Pro will appear is still unknown. No information is yet available about the price. Nevertheless, you can assume that it will be close to the current line-up. The price of the Pixel 6 Pro is set at €900 for the 128GB model and €1,000 for 256GB storage.
The Pixel 7 series will probably be officially introduced in October. The Google Pixel Notepad may also be announced at the same time. The first foldable phone from Google is expected at the end of 2022, as a counterpart to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
In the coming weeks and months, there will undoubtedly be more details about the new smartphones from Google. Before that, the Pixel 6a will arrive first.
